News: Hooded Fang & Pinkunoizu release split 7″

Hooded Fang

Full Time Hobby’s latest signings Hooded Fang & Pinkunoizu are to release a split 7″ single together.

On the one side, Hooded Fang’s Clap is a garage rock riot with surf guitars, ‘verbed-out vocals and danceable ‘60s drum breaks. “It’s a song about one of those single life encounters – just drunken memories really,” say the four piece Polaris-nominated band, who hail from Toronto, Canada. Hooded Fang’s brilliant debut album is titled Tosta Mista; it sounds like the whole of the Nuggets box set condensed into 23 minutes and it’s set for a 12 March release.

On the other side of the vinyl, Pinkunoizu’s Parabolic Delusions is an unpredictable, involved but nonetheless ear-friendly listen that establishes deep, immersive grooves. “This here must be the most poppy piece of music we have ever done,” say the experimental Copenhagenand Berlin-based band, who release their debut album, Free Time!, on 26 March.

The single is scheduled for a 5th March release.

News: School Of Seven Bells announce European shows

School of Seven Bells have announced a short run of European shows kicking off on March 8th at The Garage in London. The Brooklyn duo made up of Benajmin Curtis and Alejandra Deheza are set to release third album ‘Ghostory’ on February 27th on Full Time Hobby with their new single ‘Lafaye’ due February 20th.

Ghostory is the follow-up to the band’s past releases, Alpinisms and Disconnect From Desire. On the new record, the duo strings together nine lush pieces to tell the story of the aforementioned Lafaye and the ghosts that surround her life. Thematically, the story is somewhat personal to the group, as the writing sessions for this album was a more intimate and direct experience. As Curtis explains “Ghosts are everything that’s ever happened to you that you haven’t been able to let go of, like someone you love, or someone you hate.” The emphatic bellows of Lafaye and her fellow ghosts are heard loud and clear from beginning to end on this record. Hmmm.

10/03 – Botanique – Witloof – Belgium, Brussels
11/03 – Bitterzoet – Amsterdam, Netherlands
12/03 – Point Ephemere – Paris, France

Lemonheads announce acoustic ‘Hotel Sessions’

Lemonheads_hotel_sessionsOn 9th January, 2012, the Lemonheads will release Hotel Sessions on Hall of Records – an intimate recording documenting a Sunday night that Evan Dando spent recording new songs with just an acoustic guitar (and some revealing commentary) in a hotel room in Bondi Beach, Australia. The 14 songs include some that never made it to an official Lemonheads album, but as Dando says, “the ‘Into Your Arms’ I did here is better than the one on the album…”

“I’ve always wanted to make an “Album ” for 53 dollars – Walkman 50 , tape 3 bucks – Oh to record live to cassette, master it and put it out … I have finally done it! I recorded this here biscuit in and around either December ’92, or Feb ’93. I remember it was a Sunday night in Bondi – the night the ‘car enthusiasts’ come out. I had just returned to Australia – my home away from home – from our first Japanese tour. Life was good. I made this tape for our Aussie agent of that time, Stephen Pavlovic. I am forever grateful to this man for introducing me to Australia and a grand gang of Australians!

This LP documents a lovely lull in the action. A Sunday night into morning, to collect myself and my songs. The songs that would be on our next album, some of these never made it, and the ‘Into Your Arms’ I did here is better than the one on the album (I like it anyway). So sit back, snort some NoDoz and listen for the tunes, the sea, the tape hiss (ahhh), the cars, the birds the trucks, and the killer motorcycle at the end of ‘Being Around’! Wherever you live, I’ll be back there soon, Inshallah!! Until then, let’s all make the most of the tail end of sex with furniture. Yours ever faithfully.” Evan G Dando.
