Feature: Punk Rock Ist Nicht Tot’s Ones To Watch for 2011

ones to watchOf all the bands we’ve heard, watched and reviewed this year here are the ones that have really stood out that we think might make a bigger splash in 2011…

Chapel Club
Chapel Club’s soaring eighties influenced guitar pop, has already earned them heaps of praise, most notably from Zane Lowe. Now the boys are set to capitalise on their success with the release of their debut album ‘Palace’ in January.

Standard Fare
It’s been a long time since jangly guitar pop ruled the airwaves. Thankfully Standard started to right this terrible wrong earlier in the year with their fabulous debut album ‘The Noyelle Beat’. Their quest is set to continue into 2011 with their second album due for release in April.

Tim Ten Yen
The singing salary man and his sinister cat are starting to gain the attention they deserve and the live shows are already legendary. With 2011 seeing a monthly residence at Club Fandango at the Bull & Gate and a new record being released every full moon, next year might just be Tim’s year!

Prinzhorn Dance School
Already praised by the likes of Pitchfork, The Guardian and Artrocker, I fell in love with their minimalist post punk when I reviewed ‘Seed, Crop, Harvest’. The band are heading back into the studio to put the finishing touches to what should be an amazing album, with a release scheduled for next year.

Smith Westerns
The single most popular post on Punk Rock Ist Nicht Tot this year was a stream of sunny pop song ‘Weekend’ by the Smith Westerns. With their second album ‘Dye It Blonde’ due out in January 2011 I suspect they’ll be no stopping this trio.

Blanche Hudson Weekend
The Blanche Hudson Weekend have already taken London’s live circuit by storm with their spectacular blend of shoegaze, dream pop and garage rock. Now with 3 critically acclaimed singles and a compilation album already under their belt, news reaches us that the band are working on their proper debut.

Guards
There’s very little information available about Guards, it seems frontman Richie Follins prefers to let the music speak for itself. If the Guards EP, the band’s only release so far, is anything to go by the music is doing a fine, bring on the album!

Limozine
Limozine’s primitive, whiskey sodden, Cramps/Motorhead/Birthday Party inspired rock ‘n’ roll was a huge hit at Punk Rock Ist Nicht Tot. 2010 saw the band get regular airplay form 6 music and a feature in Classic Rock Magazine and bursting with anticipation to hear their second album ‘Full Service’ due next year.

The Humms
Although The Humms fantastic debut album ‘Lemonland’ just missed out on a place in our top 20 albums of 2010, we loved their blend of pyschobilly, garage rock and tongue in cheek lyrics and we’re pretty sure you will too. Look out for more releases coming in the new year!

Redtrack
2010 has been an amazing year for Redtrack as they’ve gone from winning the Hollyoaks Music Show Competition to releasing their debut album on Club Fandango. With a new single due early next year we predict big things for these Essex boys and their modern take on post punk.

What Would Jesus Drive
Witty lyrics and boy/girl call and response vocals backed by angular electro punk won us over the minute we heard ‘The Girls Are In Charge’ EP. We’re pretty sure that WWJD’s debut album ‘Black and Blue’ will have the same effect on everyone else when it’s released in March 2011!
