News: New album from Cold War Kids
Last modified on 2010-10-13 11:39:11 GMT. 0 comments. Top.
COLD WAR KIDS are proud to announce the release of their third studio album – “MINE IS YOURS” – via Downtown Records on 24th January 2011. The band enlisted Jacquire King (Kings of Leon, Tom Waits, Modest Mouse) to record and produce the eleven song collection over a period of three months in Nashville TN, and Los Angeles, CA.
This is the band’s first full-length album since their September 2008 release, “Loyalty to Loyalty”. The band also released the critically acclaimed EP, “Behave Yourself”, in December 2009.
“Mine Is Yours” finds the band harnessing their idiosyncratic soul punk sound as it takes a massive leap forward in songwriting, sonics and execution. Lead singer Nathan Willett took a different approach to his writing on this record as well, offering more intimate and personal lyrical content: “I got home from tour and realized I was married. All my friends had either jumped in the deep end of a relationship or had drowned. When did things get so serious? We fought growing up but the wild nights and free-for-all caught up with us. Some people got out in time and others had permanent damage. For this record, I wrote about the joys and failures of commitment all around me.”
US fans will have a chance to hear the new songs early when the band embark on a tour which kicks off in Pomona, CA at the Glass House on 5th November and finishes in Memphis, TN on 11th December. Cold War Kids will be touring the UK early next year, dates will be announced soon…

Hope for a songs-from-the-vault album long awaited by Weezer’s devoted community of fans is finally fulfilled with Death To False Metal (DGC/UMe), out November 1st. Comprised entirely of 10 previously unreleased recordings – nine never-before-heard songs plus one cover – Death To False Metal brings together what singer-songwriter-guitarist Rivers Cuomo calls “great songs, great recordings, but for some reason they didn’t make the final cut for a record.”
Featuring tracks from the late ‘90s to late ‘00s, including the so-called “Weezer mystery year” of 1998, Death To False Metal both fills in the gaps and adds to the already substantial body of work of one of modern rock’s most acclaimed and popular bands.
The tracklisting for the record is as follows:
Turn Up The Radio
I Don’t Want Your Loving
Blowin’ My Stack
Losing My Mind
Everyone
I’m A Robot
Trampoline
Odd Couple
Auto-Pilot
Un-Break My Heart

News: Eat your Own Ears announce series of gigs at London’s XOYO
Last modified on 2010-10-01 12:41:17 GMT. 0 comments. Top.
London party promoters, Eat Your Own Ears, have put together series of special live shows at East London’s latest venue, XOYO. Taking place throughout October and November, the eclectic line up includes hotly tipped acts like Egyptian Hip Hop to established artists like, electronic wizard, Matthew Dear and former Beta Band member, Steve Mason.
Full line up below:
JUNIP + WOODPIGEON
Monday 4th October
After a 5-year hiatus, Junip have returned to work on a new album and play a live European tour. Junip are perhaps most widely known for being the band of José González but with influences ranging from Neu! to John Martyn, Junip sound mostly like Junip.
Woodpigeons’s chamber-folk concoctions of banjo, glockenspiel, choir and Mark Hamilton’s diffident vocals make for thoughtful melodious moments and joyous rock-outs
ERRORS and THE TWILIGHT SAD
Thursday 7th October
Scottish Indie titans The Twilight Sad and Errors share the billing for this co-headline show.
Errors manage to retain the elements of new-wave and acid-house that marked their early releases and build on it; a merge of angular guitars, spiraling, euphoric synths and informed dance sounds underpinned by truly mesmerising beats and rhythms in expansive, ambitious style.
The Twilight Sad are an indie band from Kilsyth, Scotland, and they combine folk influences with a more experimental live sound to create exciting indie music. Drawing on musicians such as Daniel Johnston, Arab Strap and Leonard Cohen, they write songs about their own experiences in the town they grew up in.
KISSES + FIXERS
Monday 18th October
Kisses is a Los-Angeles based disco project featuring Jesse Kivel and Zinzi Edmundson. Though primarily inspired by long-format, instrumental disco (Cerrone, Gino Soccio) Kisses has developed a uniquely concise songwriting style that is equal parts FM radio pop and expansive four-to-the-floor
STEVE MASON
Thursday 21st October
Having previously been a member of the Beta Band, and recorded solo as both King Biscuit Time and Black Affair, Steve Mason has gone back to basics, using his own name for the first time, to produce beautiful acoustic based songs, full of well-crafted pop melodies.
EGYPTIAN HIP HOP + CONAN MOCKASIN
Thursday 4th November
Egyptian Hip Hop emerged at the end of 2009 and were met with universal acclaim. NME tipped them as one of the top ten bands to watch in 2010, whilst the Guardian, Dazed, Loud & Quiet and Radio 1 have been all over them.
Since reinventing himself as the solo artist Connan Mockasin (previously Connan and the Mockasins) has used the early immersion in the blues to create his own musical language.
SLEIGH BELLS
Sunday 21st November
SLEIGH BELLS are just a duo — Derek on beat production, guitars, and songwriting; Alexis Krauss on vocals — but their tracks ram together many sonic worlds. Their electronic beats thud with gut-rattling low end; guitars are distorted siren squalls, or heavily gated and thoroughly crunched power chords, or playful, beta-band-esque strums. Krauss flips easily from hip-hop hook, to pop power, to sunshined, coquettish coos.
MATTHEW DEAR
Thursday 9th December
Matthew is a man of many different guises, whether creating and remixing under his own name, or one of his alter-egos – Jabberjaw, False, and Audion. Depending on who you ask, Matthew Dear is a DJ, a dance-music producer, an experimental pop artist, a bandleader. He co-founded both Ghostly International and its dance floor offshoot, Spectral Sound. He’s had remixes commissioned by The XX, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Spoon, Hot Chip, The Postal Service, and Chemical Brothers; he’s made mixes for the Fabric mix series and Get Physical’s Body Language.

Upside Down: The Best of The Jesus And Mary Chain (out November 15th on Music Club Deluxe, a division of Demon) is a 2 CD career-spanning overview that marks 25 years since their first album Psychocandy. The very first of its kind for brothers Jim and William Reid and their many notable musical cohorts, Upside Down features all single ‘A’ sides, key album tracks and rarities, with guest appearances by Shane MacGowan (The Pogues) and Hope Sandoval (Mazzy Star), and, of course, original drummer Bobby Gillespie (Primal Scream).
Named after the band’s groundbreaking debut single, this collection coincides with the release of the documentary film Upside Down: The Story Of Creation Records, which features interviews with The Jesus And Mary Chain, the label’s first big breakout act. Both of the band’s Top 10 UK chart toppers — “April Skies” (no. 8 in May 1987), and “Reverence” (no. 10 in February 1992) — are herein, along with ten other top 40 hits. Included also are two tracks never before found on a Jesus And Mary Chain release: their 2008 recording “All Things Must Pass” (recorded for the US TV programme Heroes) and “45 RPM” (previously only available on an XFM compilation).

News: Crystal Stilts Shake The Shackles
Last modified on 2010-09-14 12:20:05 GMT. 0 comments. Top.
‘Shake The Shackles’ is Crystal Stilts’ first release since “Love Is A Wave” and serves as a nice little taster for their forthcoming album, due early 2011. Driven by echoed guitar strum and droning keys, it’s a dexterous update of 60s garage pop that places it alongside late 80s Paisley Underground heroes like Green On Red and later Dream Syndicate. On the flip they go darker with the twilight swing of “Magnetic Moon,” a bluesy chug that comes on like some lost swamp pop classic, all echo, guitar twang and simple tom ‘n’ tambourine beat.
‘Shake The Shackles’ hits the streets on October 26th on Slumberland records.

Crocodiles release their new album ‘Sleep Forever’ on September 13th on Fat Possum but are giving away a new EP called Fires of Comparison for free download. Recorded after they wrapped sessions for the loud, fuzzy Sleep Forever, the EP veers into a mellow, trippy, semi-electronic vein and contains no vocals. Why? The band claims they contracted strep throat by sharing a pipe with a hobo in San Diego’s Presidio Park.
