Single Review: The Smittens – Texting, Typing

the smittensSometimes a record labels logo on a promo CD is like a stamp of quality. And so it goes with the fantastic WeePOP!, a label that very much understands the ‘stick with what you know’ ethos. I’ve never had a bad record from these guys and I’m pleased to say that ‘Typing Texting’, the new single from Indie popsters The Smittens, doesn’t disappoint. A simple, effortlessly cool, catchy little slice of lo-fi indie pop that sounds like it was recorded in a bedroom (and probably was!), it has a gorgeous melody defined by the female vocals and some charming bom-bom-bom-bom backing vocals form the rest of the band. The single is backed with a cover of Cars Can Be Blue’s ‘You’re So Cute’ which the band has managed to make their own, and the melancholic ‘Sometimes People Get Sad’ which is so lovely it almost makes me cry!
